Built Environment Article: Energy Efficient Motors

26/03/15 Built Environment Magazine, Article: Purchasing Energy Efficient Drives

The Built Environment Magazine discusses Integrated Motor Drive Units and energy efficient motors that drive pumps, fans, compressors, industrial handling and processing equipment, conveyance and other forms of mechanical handling and processing. In industry electric motors account for the largest amount of electricity consumption. In the EU, they are estimated to account for about 70% of all industrial electricity consumption.

All new equipment using electric motors have to meet a tougher level for energy efficiency from 2015 under EU rules - Motors with a rated output of 7.5kW to 375 kW must meet either the IE3 efficiency level, or the IE2 equipped with a variable speed drive. We feature high performance electric motors, drives, pumps, gearboxes, generators, controls and integrated systems.

This months magazine contains an article on purchasing high efficiency motors and comments from Stephen Doyle, ABB Ireland’s Drives and Motors Manager.
